What is Federal income tax withholding?
Federal income tax withholding is the amount your employer sends to the IRS toward your income tax.
Unlike FICA, federal income tax withholding isn't a flat rate. It depends on your pay, pay frequency, and the choices on your Form W-4.
It's an estimate of your yearly tax. You settle the difference when you file your return.
