What is Medicare tax?
Medicare tax is 1.45% of all wages, plus an extra 0.9% on high earnings, withheld to fund Medicare.
Medicare tax has no wage cap. Employers withhold 1.45% of all covered wages, and an Additional Medicare Tax of 0.9% applies to wages above $200,000 in a year.
Like Social Security, it can be reduced by certain pre-tax benefits.
